Only One More Time on the Highway

by Wrenleau

/

about

This song comes out of the era when hitchhiking was a viable way to cross the country (which Peter did three times in the U.S.).

lyrics

It's only one more time on the highway
And the western sun is shining in my eyes.
And, though there are many people going my way,
They ride on by without even looking twice.

But, I should be in Chicago by the morning;
There's someone there I simply have to see.
And, though I phoned to give her early warning,
I simply don't know how it will be.

I've got to take the chance this trip affords me
Of showing that I'm stronger than before.
Perhaps, she'll change her attitude toward me;
Perhaps, she'll leave that shadow at the door.

My legs are weak with hunger; I should stop to eat,
Or take a rest, if time would just allow.
But, I'm thinking of the woman I'm supposed to meet,
And there's nowhere else I'd rather be, right now.

With respect being a songwriter, as discouraging as my 49 years in USA have been, Rachel and I persevere, regardless. What else do we have to offer to the world? Thankfully, we DO have a few supporters across the globe who buy these songs, either because they like them or to give our morale a boost. Thanks hugely, friends. Your support is critical to why we get up each morning and plug on. ... more
